Well, I've found the issue that the previous owner welded and it didn't hold. He has welded the retainer nut to the bevel gear shaft. I can't imagine why, but now it looks like I'll need to replace the shaft. The manual shows that I'll need to pull both final drives. Any suggestions on where to find a replacement shaft will be appreciated.  I'll try to download pics. Thanks

I would say the hub the bevel gear mounts onto will need replacing as well. Probably a good time to change the bearings. From what I can see of the bevel gear it appears to be fine but it will need to be set up again on reassembly.
Without knowing where you are from I can only suggest you try Florin Tractor (USA) or any machine wreckers in your area.

I'm in Arkansas. Just for my clarification,is this is the same chassis as a d4 and if so what model d4 and will the shaft interchange? I'm able to turn the bevel gear by hand and I'm sure that's not a good thing! The only good thing I've seen so far, is I feel better in my welding abilities in comparison to what I found. Man is that ugly! Thanks for your response!

Plug in your part numbers to www.machinerytrader.com. They show used 8H5546 shaft and also have hub 4A0352
Nothing to do with the D4

You will also need
Key 0T0024
Nut 0T0231

Also there most likely will be a set pressure that the hub needs to be pressed onto the shaft likewise for the inner clutch drum assembly.

I was wondering about the key. Thank you guys for supplying part numbers too because I didn't think to order a parts catalog..My suspicion is that the hub broke for some reason and he welded it back together with the key in place and it failed. I'm hoping the pinion shaft isn't destroyed but without seeing it there's no way of knowing. Thank everyone for helping me out!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
