I have a friend that wants to know the Weight and Year of his machine and whether he can purchase Service manuals for it.
Its a D6 known as a 35 and 40 Tractor with a Winch and a Push type blade.
It appears that he is to rebuild this machine to make it look as new. He is an old timer looking for something to do. Some of his machines have been used as backdrops on Charlotte's Web.
The only numbers he has is the Engine Number of 4B00206 and an arrangement number of 2H7793 of which he has read on the Engine Plate. He not sure where to find the machine Serial number (& neither do I with something of this vintage).
I'm not sure with that information whether anyone can help my friend with a
Weight
Year and
availabilities of Service Manuals for this machine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you Paul

That 2H7793 would be the serial number for a 1940 D6 with D6600 3-cylinder diesel engine....the 4B00206 number could be a industrial engine replacement but my literature doesn't seem to show it.
The D6600 with 5-3/4 by 8 engine replaced the 3-cyl D6100 with 5-1/4 by 8 engine used in the Diesel 35 and 40 tractors.
Manuals can be obtained from:
www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=90800&x=7
The bare weight tractor is 15,210 lbs
Add about another 1,200 - 1,500 lbs for the winch and 3,000 lbs for the blade.

The 4B serial number would be a D330C industrial engine. At 4B4226 it became a 3304 industrial engine. He states that the 2H number is the arrangement number, and if so it has nothing to do with the 2H serial number tractors. I do not have anything to idenify the arrangement.
It would seem that the engine would be not appropriate for a 3cyl tractor.
On further thought and looking at parts book that the 4B00206 number is probably the block casting number as the block assembly part number is 4B207 for a D6 of serial number 2H 7793. So I think use of arrangement number may have initially misled me.
So the weights OM gave would be correct.

Look for the 2H serial number on the rear of the transmission case above the drawbar. It should be the same number as the plate on the engine.
