Final Drive Nut

Final Drive Nut was created by bernie
I am looking for the correct socket to use on final drive nut L-2341. I took them off with a pipe wrench and come along, so I did not have it for disassembly.

I measure 2-5/8 inch. I am having a dog of a time finding one that size without breaking the bank. Not in the mood to borrow one-

Can someone confirm that size?

Thanks-bernie

FYI-I got the answer I was looking for. For reference the L-2341 requires a
2-5/8" socket as I had thought. Glad to have the confirmation before dropping the $$$.

thanks-bernie

Hey Bernie-
I don't know if that is a high-torque nut, if not you can get a socket like this:

www.handsontools.com/KD-Tools-2439-2-58-...nch_p_829-12302.html

for a fraction of the cost of a 'real' socket...

They are available at a number of places like truck stops and heavy truck parts stores as well as online, search for 'heavy truck spindle socket'.

I've used them. When we were disassembling my clutch packs on my D42T we tried one of those first...tore the daylights out of it. Good suggestion-it would probably tighten the nut down fine.

But...what would end up happening, I would trash it while torqueing it on and end up still needing to pick up the correct impact socket.

Thanks for the suggestion Carl-

If you need a 2-5/8" go to NAPA they have good steel USA made sockets cost about $25.00.I bought a 4" 2-5/8 3-1/4.Sears also has a 2-5/8 for $30.00
Hope this helps. Steamroller:cool:

Snap-On only shows a 2 5/8" in 1" drive so the impact socket # is for the standard length is 1M843. I,m sure Mac or the NAPA would be a little cheaper. The Impact would be a lot stronger than just a regular socket.
