This is just one more example of the WASTE - ABUSE - MIS-USE of Power and Government Funds.
Lot of saleable items there.

AUCTION - commonly used to dispose of surplus and used equipment, generates funds for other uses.
DONATE - many charities, needy could use these - if not here at home in America, look abroad.
Many of our neighbors would be very happy with such "off-road" transportation. Roads in many cases are nothing more than dirt tracks.

In the land of wonders (Australia) this happens too, with our hoon laws, the hoon cars are crushed and sent to the scrappers, as most of the are unroadworthy and not tobe put back on the streets.

I'll bet there was no environmental impact study done nor any pollution prevention controls performed by the government when they smashed them either.
