Does anyone know if a 955, 12A series with a pony start engine can be fitted with a direct start starter. Is there room for a starter, is there already a hole in the side for one??
Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Yes and yes. The 12A's have provision for direct electric start including the larger diameter pre-combustion chamber heads that allow use of glow plugs.

My herd of Cat 955 12A's
I like using the pony motors mainly because I live in Alaska and cold starts are hard on everything.
Oil pressure comes up slowly in the D315 and D318. I believe the filter hosing needs to refill on each startup, Keep a close eye on the oil pressure.
NEVER EVER use either with glowplugs !
