955H: coupler between turbo and exhaust elbow

Need tips on getting the old coupler out of my turbo without damaging it. Everything feels good in there and I'd like to keep it that way! Looks like it's supposed to slide out but ya know...57 years of rusting.

I don't have an answer for you Austin but this did prompt me to wonder (again) why some manufacturers stopped/didn't use studs and brass nuts. I used to work in a muffler shop and Toyotas were great because they had studs and brass (they were quite red and light so maybe a high(er) copper content) and were never a problem to remove.

Cheers,
Neil

Clamp a vise grip on it and pull and tap with a hammer.

Slide hammer with a hook attachment to grab inside and just take it easy trying to get it out.

If it breaks, just find a turbo rebuilder in your area and see what he suggests.

Not a big deal if the 5M2824 coupler breaks. Their available aftermarket...Florin shows 17 available.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I already have a new coupler as this one is roasted enough it let's smoke by so no big deal if I break this one. Hopefully I can keep the turbo intact. Stay tuned!

A piece of the couple snapped off with the vice grip and started a crack. I worked that til it cracked through and another piece fell out and it came apart. Cleaned all the junk out of the turbo area, reassembled, and worked it during our show last weekend.
