Seeing some posts about clutch problems, here is what I ran into today. This spring I was using the D8 2u High Output to push a bit of dirt, and the clutch adjustment got way to tight, opened the cover on the oil clutch, and the bolts that holds the adjustment ring locks had sheared off. hhhhmmmm. that was odd. I parked it and got the d8 14a and finished the dirt moving before spring planting. had some free time today, so I go the magnet out and fished around for the locks and broken bolts in the bottom of the clutch compartment. found a spring, and pin, a wire retainer, two retainer halves (like for an engine valve stem , one of the locks, and a gear that I could not get all the way out. looks like the oil pump idler gear came off its pin or bearing and sheared of the clutch adjuster locks and broke some other goodies. reading in my 14a book, It looks like I will have the fun job of pulling the clutch and housing to do a proper fix. any one seen this type of problem before? looks like the high output has the same oil clutch as the 14a, so parts should not be too hard to get.

Sounds like the right diagnosis to me....question is what knocked the idler gear off....probably worn main support bearings.

Just busy farming and the normal summer rush. and the computer took a crap a while back. Haven't had to much time to work on or use the heavy equipment. only have put on 75 or so hours between the hoe and the cats. plenty to do - like bury about 10 more tree and stump piles just on our farm after the corn and beans are off.
