Yes, I just found another one (Friday afternoon, 2:25 p.m. Mountain Time). I've alerted Joe Black so maybe we can get rid of another one. I could delete his post, but I understand Joe wants to see it so he can permanently block the person. Thanks for your understanding. GWH

There is another on the Cat 22 thread.
What can be done to prevent these guy from coming in or on to the BB? I remember when I signed up I had to go through a several day process.

Yes, I have already alerted Joe to the 2nd in the same evening. You raise a good point. We may be on auto pilot. I'll find out. GWH

Yes, after the initial opening of the new site the attempts at bogus registrations dropped to the point that the decision was made to automate the registration process. There are still several steps in place and the spammers we see now are actual people going through the steps to post their garbage, and that at 1 minute intervals, so we don't get as many as their could be. But we very well may have to go back to manually reviewed registrations.
Over at ACME we've had very few spammers over the past five years until recently and it became so bad the last couple months that for the first time I had to turn on moderated registration. 98% are all from China and in speaking with other contacts in the Internet field the story is the same, there's a major effort from China to spam as much "advertising" as possible. Someone should probably start an organization or web site to promote boycotts of the spammed products and/or manufacturers, then it might change. The only reason there is spamming is because it does get results and sales.

There's gotta be some way to nuke these guys, to make them get the message ......

Ron and all,
I am not trying to toot my own horn but I have sent an email to Joe already this evening. I just wanted you all to know that "they" are being watched for.
It is 1 AM Arizona time and I sent it shortly after I arrived home from work. I work second shift and usually am on my computer just before midnight each evening.
I have been watching each new "member" regularly and have notified Joe each time I find an ID that is questionable. There are other clues but I am reluctant to post them here in case "they" see the clues and change their tactics.
As you may recall one of my favorite statements, "Damned Snakes". Well this fits here real well.
Walt

Good work, Walt. I watch for them sneaking through in the early morning hours of U.S. time .. it's easy enough for me, 'cos it's mid-afternoon here.
I send Joe an email the instant I get a 'posting notification' email where a spammer has posted. The more eyes we have on them, the better.
All we need is a way to delete and block them immediately .. and then hopefully, the frustration of seeing their 'graffiti' disappear as fast as they put it up, will make them discouraged .. and they go trash someone elses site instead ..

Oops,
I forgot I was going to address the, "what can we do to stop them", question, Ron.
There is no easy answer but I wish we could do something I saw on a TV series recently.
The series was Star Trek: Voyager. In one episode one character (a Borg), clobbered the owner of a network of satellites. The Voyager crew was trying to use the network to communicate with Earth and the owner came on and told then to "get off". Well the character, "7 of Nine", sent a power pulse back through the network and zapped the owner.
I wish we could do something like that to the spammers. Wouldn't they be surprised...?
