Can anyone tell me what numbers and the year for a D4 7J series machines? I would think early 1940's but not sure of the number sequence.
Many thanks

According to the Cat SNID book the 7J started production in 1939 and the 5T D4 in 1943 and then the 6U @ 7U in 1947.

Between the 7J and 5T there were also the 2T series machines,7J 1939-1943, 2T 1943 to 1945, 5T 1945-1947. then they broke with traditionn and gave narrow and wide gauge separte serial numbers, narrow 6U series and wide gauge 7U series. 1947 to 1960? But I do know that the later D4C, 24A (UK built) started production in 1959!

Catsilver, I think this Cat SNID sales book I got from the dealer is mixed up a lot. It shows as you said the 2T coming out in 1943 and also the 5T coming out in 1943 and the 5T RD4 coming out in 1945 both starting at 1 and up.

Hi Martyn
Wendel's List show the following.....
1939.......7J1 - 7J1754
1940.......7J1755 - 7J4110
1941.......7J4120 - 7J7544
1942.......7J7545 - 7J9939
1943.......7J9940 -
I'm not sure what happened to 7J4111 - 7J 4119 probably a misprint.
I'm the proud owner of 7J2832W (W = Wide Gauge).

There's a pretty good listing of the various D2 & D4 models over on the ACME board that breaks 'em down to years and serial numbers.
