Hi all plowed some stubble the other day with the old 9U.  It’s been very dry here, so it pulled hard and was very cloddy. Made the 9U talk some.

Yep! looks dry, yea it would pull hard, good to have power ahead of the plows in those conditions.

Nothing like making her grunt some. I would think pulling up huge clods is better than ribbons of mud. I see so many videos of guys plowing when wet, and I really don't get why they do not wait for the ground to settle down. One day I will get some new shares for the Atlas plow. Nobody around here makes them.

Hi JM. Yes WAY better than wet plowing.  Some wet weather and freeze thaw of winter will bust the clods no problem.  17 pulled it in third ok until it got really tight, then second gear pulled it with no sweat.  In “normal” conditions it would have been fine in third.  

She looks very vintage. Did you make a copy of the Cat trip rope holder that was discussed a few weeks ago, or just bale wire or twin.

Sounds like the rain should be at your place, or am I looking at the wrong weather reports? Fingers and toes crossed expecting the first real rain since March on Sun/Monday. Hoping you get some but never to much. LOL

Hi Ray.  I must’ve missed the trip rope holder discussion.  We used a wire loop that sort of looks like a shower curtain loop.  It held the rope so it would pull out when the plow tripped.  There was a guy up here who would wrap his hand in the rope.  Once he got yanked off the back of his 7U when the plow tripped.  

It’s raining some. We got a good shot yesterday. Looks like we got a good chance for the rest of the month.  

Bruce I have found that a normal hitch pin hair pin works great. You can always find somewhere for it to push onto and it pulls off easily if the hitch trips.

Man oh man, I wished I could have something here to turn over besides dust. Ray: we finally got some decent moisture today, too bad my family still has over 100 acres of Hartley walnuts left to harvest though. Its supposed to let up, I wont be surprised if the tenant can shotgun them in by the end of the week, so dry here the ground just sucked up any moisture.Hope everyone has their crops in!

The Cat rope holder must be part of the Cat tools thread, I had never seen or heard of them before.
Lite mist so far, but the adobe is sticky already. I am hoping it rains better tonight and all day tomorrow.

Walnuts are still all out here, but less than 50% of what there was 10 years ago. I think maybe 5 to 10% of the wine grapes out too.
