Hello All
I started removing the engine from my D8 serial number 15A1254. It has a hydraulic blade and in a past thread with the help of OM and edb we have identified the hydraulics as a 183 Hyd system and I purchased a parts book for it but it does not have any details about the cylinder and mounts. Does anyone know what serial range they might have or where I might find the serial number? The blade and frame are not Cat but the hydraulic cylinders and mounts are.
Also does anyone know what the torque convertor weighs?
Regards
Phil

These are the lift cylinders for the 15A. Is that what you have?
Info on the cylinders would be found in the Blade parts book and Service Manual for the 183 Hydraulic Control.

Hello OM
I have the parts book for the 176 and 183 hydraulic controls UE033987 and it does not show any details about the cylinder nor the framework on the dozer. I think the reason for this is the hydraulic controls are for a D8H. Do you know what form number would cover the 15A1254?
The cylinder shown in your picture is similar but not the same.

Phil

The parts diagram I posted is for the 15A.
Here's the diagram for the early D8H ( later units are trunnion mount)
From Parts Book Form # UE034469

Hello OM
Thanks for the info. I guess it makes sense the cylinders are from a D8H as well. Searching for Cat 34469 on ebay shows the "8A 8C 8S 8U Bulldozers Parts Book". What form number would show the mounts and cross member on the 15A chassis? I assume it would have to be 15A or would the D8H parts fit?
Regards
Phil

There are 9 parts catalogs for D8 blades in the technical library. It would not take long to look through them to find what you need if you know the blade type and tractor serial number.

The 15A (early) Cylinder Bracket Group is in Bulldozer parts book Form #31612
The D8H (early) Bracket Group is in Bulldozer parts book Form # UE034469
My router just crapped out so I've lost wireless connection to my scanner otherwise I would post the parts diagram.

Hello gauntjoh
Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately none of them are suitable Also a lot of the manuals in the library are unreadable.
Thanks Josh. I have to remove the engine as it has had water in the exhaust and the inlet manifold and the sump is full of water. I think my 944 will lift it all without removing the torque convertor.
OM
Thanks again for your help with this. All of the manuals in the library show a tube cross member above the engine. Mine has a tee shape cross member. Some of the heads of the bolts are rusted off and one head broke off when I tried to undo it so I am looking at my options. I have to remove it to get the engine out.The bolts go through a flange that is about 1.5 inches thick. I can only see two options, cut the head off the bolts and cut the cross member in half or remove the bolts from the outer shell, cut the heads off the bolts and use an enerpac to jack the side apart far enough to get the cross member out. I am leaning towards the first option.
Regards
Phil

Yes, all but one arrangement uses the cross tube. Your tee shape version seems unusual.
There is one exception. the UE034469 Dozer Parts Book shows a conversion Group 3J2060 which uses added stiffners rather than the cross tube but that's not going to do you any good.
Not much you can do with those blind bolts other than what you propose.
