I have a D2 5J (circa 1944)--originially painted olive drab, but wish to paint it in an appropriate color for the timeframe. DuPont paint is the easiest for me to obtain locally. Anyone have the proper paint code for "Cat Yellow" for the 1940s?
Cheers

Hi Roverman,
I see you are in Mesa AZ.
Have you contacted the local Cat dealer - Empire Machinery - at the freeway and country club for the paint?

Roverman, The DuPont number for Old Cat Yellow in their Centari Acrylic Enamel is: 421A. Here is a pic of a D-2 painted with it.

The Caterpillar part number for the old Highway Yellow is 4C4185. They quoted me $54.00/gallon for it. The DuPont 421A is $145.90/gallon plus hardener plus thinner. I have just used the Caterpillar paint and it works great. The DuPont will probably last better though.

And the paint code we used to use for Dupont Imron was 421U.It gave a very shiny and durable finish that never got dull. Some people didn't like machines shiny.
