I've been looking for a D7e high horse for a while now. I keep seeing military surplus machines for sale, but they all have the low horse style breather and exhaust stack. Even though they will have the later model serial # indicating a high horse machine, I have never seen a military machine with the high horse breather/ exhaust. Did the military order the low horse breathers even on a high horse machines?

Don't know. If they affect clearances I would bet on it. The Army buys stuff like to speced to make for easy loading and unloading into ships.

I assume by the term 'breather', you are referring to the air intake/air cleaner.. Maybe the military wanted the earlier style fitted to the 160hp tractors also fitted to the 180hp tractors to save on parts inventory. The later system I always felt was easier to service and had a much better dust ejector system.
