Needing some “real world” advice on oils for my D4 7U with HT4 loader. I found most information in the Operator manual but some of the information is obviously out dated and better oils/grease is now available.

Anyone have a list handy for compatible oils?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

you can use 15w40 diesel engine oil or 30w diesel engine oil in the crank case. you can use 90weight or 85/90 in the transmission. you can use 90 weight or heavier 85/140 gear oil in the final drives. if your rollers are the old style with the button zerk and the seals are good you can use 000 grease or if the seals are leaking i use corn head grease. if your rollers are the newer style you can use 30w engine oil to top them off. the hydraulic can use 10w engine oil or a little heavier or hydraulic oil.  for the pony just use 30 weight engine oil and change it often. the old oil spec was non detergent so the sediment will come out over time.  the gasoline has a tendency to dilute the pony oil also.  son't forget to fill and replace the oil in the injection pump sump often also. i use 30 weight for that

get a reconmendation off your chosen oil company tech advice service this is free. dont let anyone tell you you cant use multi-grade oil they are dribbling shit a multigrade will give better protection 9 times out of ten in almost any application. they used 30 weight back then as that is what was readily available. the only caveat about using modern oils is dont use zinc fortified oils in the final drives due to bronze gears and bushings which dont like zinc as it will attack them.

i use caltex oils in ours

delo gold 15w40 in the engine,pony and oilbath airfilters and any where else crankcase oil is specified.
textrans tdh in the hydraulics and transmission it is a universal tractor hydraulic, trans and differential oil and is 75w80 gear lube equivalent also close to iso68 hydro oil

the final drive use use torquefluid 454 or 434 depending on environment temp this product has a new name and is now part of the delo range of products

and for a grease i use liplex ep2 or liplex M both are lithium complex grease and are interchangable liplexM is fortified with 3percent molybdenum disulphide
both are extreme pressure ngli grade 2 greases available in 450g cartridges or in bulk tubs

the 7/8 button style nipples are still available and are much cheaper via your local cat dealer. all you need is a adapter to use a standard grease gun.

if your machine has the later non grease track rollers you need a adapter to fill them with a heavy oil or fluid grease.

don't use nlgi #2 grease in the rollers. use something that is semi fluid or make your own. the newer rollers use 30 weight or 50 weight oil.

Cat recommended 10w engine oil for the older vane pumps and an oil supplier I talked to said the aw32 and 46 oils are not the same, he recommended 10W powerdrive hyd fluid by Phillips Petroleum.

Rome, would JD Hygard Low-Vis be a substitute for the Phillips 10W powerdrive? I don't think the latter is available around here

I use the Phillips 66 to4 equivalent oil in my power shift transmissions and wet steering clutches--there is an oil dealer here on Long Island that supply's it--just use aw46 oil in all my hydraulic systems

thats why i used textrans as it has cat TO4 approvals. it is also the caltex recommendation for our climate. you can also use delo gold in the trans and hydraulics, BUT personally i wouldn't use a engine oil in a gearbox or hydraulic system its for lubricating engines not gear sets.

I'm in a hot semi tropical climate so ngli2 grease works just fine on our old girl.

and all semi fluid grease is, is a oily grease you can make it buy warming a good grease i suggest a moly grease and mixing it with oil till mixed well and is the consistancy you want.
many old leaky slasher gearboxes have been "fixed" doing this.
