According to the D4 6U parts catalogue held in the members technical library the max width is 24 inches (see below)

thanks. i forgot about the tech library. i will go there first from now on. i know that the 6U wont allow for 24 inch pads but wasn't sure if 14 inch was even a width offered. according to the above the shoe skips from 13 to 16 inches so for a 6U 13 must be all that was offered.

Yes 13" was what was for the 6U series, some guys would use wide shoes and cut the inner side to fit but that was on tractors without the blade lift braces. They were hard on rail side stress also.

Bursitis gave the right information, he stated it was a 6U, it is a narrow gauge, no need for anyone responding to guess.

i use the search function to find as much info as i can before i ask a question so for that reason and for future searchers that may find this thread in a far off time,i leave this information,
the D4 7U is a wide gauge tractor so there is more room between the frame and the edge of the shoe. the 6U is a narrow gauge tractor so the shoe width is limited to 13 inches.
