I've been offered a Rodgers Hydraulic track pin press but can't find a lot of info on them on Google, the gentleman with it is 79 years old and bought it over 40 years ago but never used it, he thinks it was made around 1939.

It is a portable unit as it has a hand pump in the photo he sent me, but unfortunately the photo doesn't show much of the unit, I can see the ram and jaws of the unit is mounted on a light weight angle iron frame that looks home made, he is sending me more photo's on the weekend when his son will come over and help him unearth it from his shed.

In the photo he sent me I can see the hand pump has what looks like a small auxillary tank mounted on the side of the main tank, and I do know it's a Model 18 and the serial number is 1044060, the pump has been bolted to a piece of 3" X 10" wood about 2 feet long

Thanks Bruce, I think that unit is a 9A Rodgers, and a fair bit bigger than the unit I'm hoping to buy.

  Here is the photo of the unit I was sent, there is more to it "buried" under other things in the guys shed, and his son will be helping unearth it on the weekend and I'll get more photo's. I'm thinking with a electric or diesel power pack producing 10,000 pounds, that should give me about 60 tons out of the 6" ram, enough for 2 Ton, D2 and D4 chains.

this is a Cat Rodgers track press attachment we had at The Dealer and as shown in the Cat Service Tools Books.

We also the older full size stand alone heavy duty track presses at our Dealer were Rodgers.

I believe the mobile units shown in some Cat publications were also Rodgers.

Later press we had was something like Bignozzi from memory--the even later one they got after I retired is unknown to me.


We had adapters for the Standard Cat 6F25 service press pump and ram to do tracks where one or two links were to be replaced in the Field--we also had a Rodgers portable pressing rig at one time powered by a V4 Wisconsin if I recall for field work or even when the power was out or rationed back in the early 1960's.

The few Cat Tool Guides I have from 1943 to the 1960's all show Rodgers track pressing gear.
Attached is the Cat rig we had and a Rodgers portable unit shown in my 1942 Cat Tool Guide Book.

even if you had to rekit it with all new seals its worth getting. i would caution you about converting it to power pack drive as the unit may not handle it. seek the advice of a hydraulics shop first. so you could match a suitable power unit to it.

Using a power pack with that cylinder will not be a problem. Finding a power pack that is capable of 10,000psi will be the difficult part. That sort of pressure usually requires an Enerpac or similar power pack which could be quite pricy.
My Enerpac hydraulic pump with a Hatz diesel engine powering it cost $17,000 new.

Thanks for your input guys, in one of the old Rodgers tech sheets I saw them saying their hand pumps were 10,000 PSI, which is pretty impressive from back in the 1940's.

hydraulic online are on queenslands gold coast. i have gotten hose and fittings off them very reasonably priced. they have a large range of fittings adapters and parts.
have a look at their air operated engmattec power pack. with hose and enerpac style quick fittings au$495 of course thats without postage the unit by the way look very like enerpack units at twice the price second hand. the only issue is does it have enough oil capacity to stroke that ram. but i dont see why the pump couldnt be bolted to a larger tank.
