definately change the seals and gasket as a set. cuase while its apart its easy. and todays fuel attacks the old seals as it doesnt have the sulphur which did keep em supple to a certain degree.
Do you know if anyone sells a kit for this? Or do you know the size of all the seals by chance outside the #8?

If you do a "search" for old post "Diesel Fuel in Crankcase of D47U" started by D4Jim eleven years ago you will find some info on replacing the seals. I do not know how to attach it to this post or I would do it. There is no kit that I am aware of just the 2 O-rings that I believe are part No 8B4967. I got them from CAT along with the necessary replacement gaskets. I think that there are two gaskets that you will need. The most difficult part is that there are a couple of fasteners that are a bit of a challenge to get off and back on. There are a couple of photos in that post and there are several other posts that address this issue that have pictures of the old O-rings vs the new. The old ones come out looking nothing like an O-Ring and will be more of a triangle shape. I think that if you do a search for "8B4967" you will find more info also. I think you need to use the quotation marks "---" when you do the search.

yes using quotation marks cuases google to search exactly for that phrase. which can be helpful in some instances.

Trying to remove the bushing like oil seal between the injection pump and the fuel tower ... its a PITA ... do I have to use a slide hammer to get it out or is there a preferred tool for this?
Also, asking for a friend, if some dust got into the top of the injector what would be the preferred way to clean it out which doesn't require disassembly ? My "friend" has already removed what they could see with small tools and was thinking of shoving something sticky in there like butyl tape to pick up the rest as well as running it not connected to the injector when priming the engine to help it clear even more.

Are you talking about the injector that screws into the cylinder head or the injection pump on the side of the engine?
Cheers,

Injection pump on the side of the engine which the governor connects to
Seal I am referring to is 1H5959 ...
On page 118 the #1 plug is what got some dirt into it. The big round ferrule above the actual number 3 bubble is where the seal I am trying to remove is located.

Fuel pump oil seal previously linked and talked about
Also noticed this ... don't think it affects anything though as it must have always been this way since I got the machine

that flare may not seal properly as its the taper that does the sealing.
the way to gel that seal out is a blind hole puller aka pilot(spigot) bearing puller or very carefully with a narrow and sharp cold chisel you deform the seal so it folds in to the centre and it will pop out. I would work wear its already bent out that way it will deform easier. a old flat blade screwdriver can also be used. you want to work the chisle or screwdriver between the seal and the housing
the first step to either method is secure it firmly in the vise
