We have confirmed the extra fluid to be diesel ... we are going to drain it all out, replace it, then put a ball valve that is easier to turn inline with the supply line as a "quick fix"

probably the o ring seal between the fuel tower and the injection pump. pretty sure it is a number 8 o ring that can be hpurchased just about anywhere. probably just as easy to fix the oring as to install a valve. and the valve won't prevent the oil from diluting anyway.

fix it properly saves hassle later. diluted oil can destroy bearings and that gets expensive fast. engines can also run on and over rev if the oil becomes too contaminated with fuel and thats real bad as they will keep running till they sieze or break apart.
the other location they can leak is the lift pump seal. both are reasonably cheap fixes and not difficult to do.

If you are not a purist don't be afraid to cut the supply line. I have done it on several Cats. Half inch fuel hose fits well with screw clamps. There is only gravity pressure, you do not want any air intrusion however.

Back into the swing of things ... mud season here and we didn't use brutus over the winter.
Last we left him with a inline fuel line mod for the diesel and a repaired / cleaned radiator. The problem remaining however was a coolant leak seeming to come from the top right of the radiator AND if that wasn't enough from the mounting screw for the right stabilizing arm off the engine to the radiator ... the latter I think we might have purchased a head gasket but I can't recall.
Really don't want to take this thing off again to braze it so might see about getting some DIKE and throwing that in there ...
Thoughts on the mounting screw though?

I had a leak from the front cover on my 5U that looked like it was coming from the radiator mount. Had to reseal the front cover but that fixed it

Fix the fuel system with a few bucks of o rings. Some times the o rings go away fast. I thought it was gaining oil on dip stick, and looked thin. Changed oil, did 6 or 7 hours of work and a gal or better over full. Parked in the yard and it gained more sitting. They only run on diesel for lube oil so long then its the big BIG bucks to fix. A very short day with 2 armature wrench turners and all fixed, on my D6.
If I am understanding your last post , you want limb lifters on your canopy? Do not attach them to the top of the radiator. Been there done that, broke top tank. A friend did that with a tractor and had no problems, even being a rather ruff operator. So I start at the frame rail and go up to top of radiator and then back to canopy. A bit more tubing is cheap when compared to finding a top tank and changing it out.

Head gasket must be blown from the cylinder to the stud hole, hopefully, or the head is cracked from the exhaust valve seat to the stud hole.
