Nathan, according to the Cat parts website that pinion O ring, 2A3676 is 0.28" thick, and inside dia is 3.35", any hydraulic or bearing shop should have something, Cat price here in Oz is around $US8

I'm following this thread as I have a 5U and a 7U that i have to pull the pony starter pinions on. I just bought the gasket that goes between the pony block and the bellhousing, I believe it cost $7 from Florin....I felt at that price, it was worth saving the time to have to make 2 of them. Keep us updated. Thanks.

Refer to my thread here www.acmoc.org/bb/discussion-d72/18771-d2...ernate-sizing#151174 that refers to two alternate o-rings that fit more easily than the standard 2A3676:
- 8H2046, which I have used in my 5U and which appears to hold up just fine after 4 years
- 095-1554, which I have not tried so cannot personally vouch for

Based on my experience, I'd only use 2A3676 if I could not source the other two.

Cheers,
Neil

Hi Team,
when the pinion group is at the stage as shown in post # 223811, picture 2 above, with the pinion latched in, a slight rotational twist downwards using the clutch and brake handle without undue force the unit will all but drop out as if by magic and you will wonder what you did to achieve it--same twist needed to get the unit re-installed--did a 212 grader one earlier this year and the above is what I did--no further Governor or Pinion group dismantling required from where the picture shows.
It can be likened to a Chinese wire puzzle that a deft twist here and there and it is apart without you knowing how you achieved it.
Your experience may vary,
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Ha! Well if I had read this about an hour earlier things would be different but here I've got the governor assembly off and the pinion drive on the bench. All good. I was worried it was a complicated governor but nothing to it really. Disconnect the one 1/4" link pin and a wiggle waggle and it was off. Tomorrow I have off work so I will disassemble the drive, clean and then hopefully similar to the 5T. EdB, can you confirm that the Chinese Wire Puzzle trick will work on my 5T- as in nothing further than gov assembly cover removal required? Thank you all. Your help has been of infinite value.

Hi Mangoman,
What is actually wrong with the starting clutch it might be an easy fix without having to pull the other one out.

The problem is that the clutch keeps kicking out. I adjusted it fairly tight to where it is a stiff push to over center but it just kicks right back out. I have to hold pressure on it and the lever kicks around. It feels quite rough.

I think you're going to find a good amount of rust and sludge in between the clutches. A good cleaning and maybe some polishing of the discs might be what you need. Spring 6b1909 is something I'd replace and inspect the latches for wear. I'd follow the Squatch video when you reinstall

Hi Mangoman,
As d2gary said you will probably find the the spring is very weak or broken also when you remove the screws count the number of turn too.

Just a note all parts are avaliable

I have a similar problem with my D4 7J, where the latches release too soon, I had a spare 6B1909 spring here and swapped that in, but unfortunately there was little change, so I suspect the latches are worn.

You might get a little bill shock if you need to buy 2 new latches, Cat's price looks like around $US400 per latch!!!!!!!!!!! If that's not price gouging, show me a better example, even that little 6B1909 spring is around $US12!!
