I glad the first show the grader will go to is the Acmoc show! I have a feeling it will be the only show besides the home town show because semis are expensive.

Let's see now -

Your setting up a global contest to see who has the "best" in three categories. What is the criteria to win? Best paint job? Least wear? Most correct bolts, Most money spent on restoration?

What are the prizes? Contests must have a prize. Maybe a trophy saying "Mine is the best, better than everybody else's". I know - a check for $5,000 in each category!

Maybe you should start by charging a $500 entrance fee (non refundable) along with an application to be reviewed by the Board of Directors before the submission is approved. Probably ought to require a Dun and Bradstreet rating and a net worth statement with the application to be sure no riff-raff gets in. The car show guys know that hobby has evolved to the guys with the most money and biggest staff winning the prizes.

Since this is a "Global" contest, have you hired an independent firm to verify that all votes cast are valid and to tally the votes? Are you going to task Mary to determine if all entrants are current dues paying members? How are you going to verify that the winner actually is the owner of the machine.

Do you guys think this hobby/ activity is about what tractor is the best? This is not a judged car show open to only the rich and famous.

I have been working on and around this antique equipment for 50+ years and sure haven't been doing it so I could say "Mine is better than yours". I like all the tractors.

In have been a dues paying subscriber for about 25 years - this is about the last straw.

Read this quick - this post won't be around long.

I don't like the awards either. I've said something about it in the past. I'm partial to "peoples choice" stuff as it includes public. Is this being done for increasing members? Maybe lowering magazine membership down from $55 annual might get more fish. nuff said. good luck with ur project.

edit, Whats "go live" mean?

Will, Thank you for your comments.
The award categories are the same as what would be at our regular in person live touch and feel National Show, however we could not have our show this year. There are no specific qualifications to win a vote, it will be quite simple. After one has watched the slide show they will simply pick whichever were their favorites, if they want to vote for any. All the voting details will be part of the live video slideshow. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised at the winners since it will be like minded folks voting.
The prizes are also the same as we would give out at the national show - a plaque for each category.
The patina'd looking mechanically sound machine has the same chance as getting the most votes as the shiniest showroom quality one.
As much as I’d like to win a $5000 prize that is just not a realistic ask for the club. Nor is asking anyone who wants to participate to enter with a $500 entry fee. COVID has effected different people in different ways. This is intended to bring us together as a global group of like-minded folks who want to see some of the Cats around the world, to have some fun with our hobby that many have not been able to do this year.
Yes entries will be gone through to verify who members are and who are not, and no it will not fall to Mary alone, we have a whole Board of Volunteers to help with that. No we are not hiring a third party to go through votes, it’s all going to be tallied in an excel sheet. We are trying to make it as simple as possible. There is no sound way to guarantee that entries belong to the said individual, we have to hope that those who are part of it are like minded honest folks. There is no cash up for grabs so no reason for anyone to lie about what they actually own. And let’s be honest if someone puts a picture up that is someone else’s machine, the comments will fly and we will know not to include it in any vote tally.
I do not think that it’s always about the show room quality, I appreciate machines in their work clothes. Most of us are not it to say ours is better than yours! That is childish, however getting recognition from our peers for our hard work and efforts to keep these machine alive does make those tireless hours that one puts in feel good about their efforts.
If you don't want to get that kind of recognition, No one is forcing you to participate good sir.

Thank you
Nathan

We are always pursuing ways to grow our membership, yes we hope that this will increase our membership. Dues are dues, and we have done everything possible to have the lowest possible cost right now.
the "Go Live" is the date that the video will be published and viewable.

Thank you

I think the contest is for the nice tractors and graders that people think look nice and are worth showing other people that may not have seen them strolling through the page.and it feels nice to be told that your machine is highly liked among a lot of people. And if you don’t win it gives you a reason to come back next year and upgrade your machine. As far as people trying to get photos online no one can really do things about that and I hope that the Acmoc community can be honest but the world isn’t perfect and I think we just have to deal with that risk
