Reading in the 1986 serial number book I found on 2 places a 491 scraper with the serial number starting with 9A . In the sixties I had to do with 463 and 491 pull scrapers . We used them behind D8 H and D9 G dozers , pushloaded by a D8H , see pic . The 491 was the biggest pull scraper of Cat and probably the biggest one in Europ .
In that number handbook , however , this 9A 491 is called an ELEVATING SCRAPER . I cannot imagine a cable scraper that is equipped with an elevating system . The book says it was made in Australia , probably for the local market . Well Deas , I hope you can help us , please give us the solution . Thanks in advance .
Have a nice day . Johan 7 , the Netherlands

A 9A0491 scraper should be a J621 elev. scraper Australia built ,it would be pulled by a 621 tractor. They were called a Johnson elevating scraper.
A 9A 3000+ scraper would be a 491 cable pull scraper.
A 491B would be a cable control unit.
A 9A prefix is also used on 7 other machines.

Hi, Johan7.
No help. I am about as much use on this one as a breast pocket in a G-string or an udder on a hen. I have never even seen a Cat drawn scraper in DowNunder, only LeTourneaus.

I did get to see a couple of the Cat J621 elevating scrapers but that's about it from that era. Never did see any DW20s or DW21s, only one 630A and heaps of 631s.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

First scan is the 9A section of the old paper NPR, second is from the Caterpillar Serial/Product Identification Number Index, dated 5/90.
