Does anyone know if there is a listing of hardware part numbers (bolts, screws, washers, nuts etc) with a description of what they are (size, length, thread, grade, etc)? I am restoring my CAT22, 2F5209, and am frequently finding myself unsure of the bolt lengths, etc. Also, are all CAT bolts grade 8? Thanks, Ray

Search “One Safe Source CAT” for a downloadable .pdf. Not sure if it’ll get you everything, but close. Use “find” selection for the .pdf to find what you want. Some part numbers less than four ending characters will add zeros to make them so.

- i was wondering this too, are most bolts at least a Grade 8 ??

Note when ordering bolts sometimes you have to add a number to the part number:
S-467 should be 0S-0467

Hi Team,
at a guess from what I was told at The Dealer that machines built before at the latest 1960 the bolts used were of a tensile strength that matched the application --ie, foot plate, side cover etc bolts were low Grade. More stressed application uses needed bolts of a higher specification hence there could be a at least two part Numbers for a particular sized bolt.
I think some bolts had a raised line on one side of the bolt head face to indicate a special bolt.
At The Dealer we had to keep bolts from each area of a machine separate to save fitting a low strength bolt into a high strength application. I asked what if they had been mixed before and got that blank look.

Later on Cat made all their hardware--bolts etc, to be Grade 8 or better to stop the use of incorrect spec bolts.

I seem to recall a Serv Magazine or such, maybe it was in a SRB, telling of this change and of the dangers of using incorrect spec bolts.
