Thanks guys. Ray, what thickness did you tell them to attach to the clutch plate (per side)?

Neil,
I can't recall for sure, but I think I told them to make it 1/4" after I discussed it with them. Same for the clutch brake. I put in new throw out and pilot bearings.

Hi Pete,
by any chance did you happen to capture the measurements from the pilot bearing cone (ID and width)? I could look up corresponding cups that would match that cone, and ask someone to measure the cavity that the cup fits into, and that way I can have all the correct parts on hand when I arrive.

To that end, does anyone have a Twenty-Two crank that they could measure the ID of the pilot bearing cup cavity, and the available depth?

Cheers,
Neil

Neil, the pilot bearing (part # 1B-3739) is 0.945 inches front to back. The inner race is the front end of the transmission input shaft. Caterpillar told me that the outer race was unavailable. The outer race is pressed into the flywheel, not the crankshaft.

I got the pilot bearing from Caterpillar.

Thanks! Interesting - same part # as the roller assy. for the D2 5U. The race for the D2 is 1B3740 - is that what you have for the Twenty-Two?

Cheers,

The Cat 22 parts book shows that the 1B 3738 bearing assembly consists of the 1B 3739 roller assembly and the 1B 3740 race. I don't know how the parts guy searched for the race but I thought that I gave him the part number from the 22 parts catalogue.

I hope that you can find it.

Pete

Cool! Thanks Peter, that makes both of them a match with what the D2 uses. I know I put a new race in my 5U and I bought it from Milton Cat so I'll ask them for another set and see what they come up with. If they can't find the race, I'll try Dana, and if I can source a brand new one, I'll get the measurements from it so it can be matched to a generic from SKF etc.

Cheers,
Neil
