Was on a tour yesterday of an area farmer's property and truck/Cat collection. Way out in the back is what he says is a DW10 scraper. I've heard of them and read a little online about them, but haven't seen one since the HCEA show at Brownsville in 2008. It looks complete, tires shot but holding air, engine is stuck. He made it sound like it's something he would send down the road.

I'm trying to decide if it's something I should pursue for a restoration down the road. Now, I know there aren't many around the northeast, and I don't think there are a whole lot elsewhere. How many of you ACMOC folks have one of these, know how many are left in running shape, or have carcasses to pull parts from?

Chum has a couple over in Western PA, and he frequents Brownsville so it could have been his you saw. You'd probably be able to get most if not all parts you need, either from Cat (gaskets, bearings, seals, etc.), parts guys like Florin and Chad. There are/were a couple around here too, and I think Jeff Huff still has a few in his boneyard here in Rochester. I'd say go for it : ) then bring it to Canandaigua!

I think there are early and late models with the difference being whether the operators seat is in the center of the tractor or on the left side. Believe there are early ones with the D4600 and later with the D318 (but hotrodded with a different governor from the other engines used in tractors, generators etc.

Could be off base on all of that except for the governor.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

That is what I was told years ago. Don't know if all but many early ones had hydraulic rather than cable. At least one persons opinion.

The 318 in DW 10 get there own governor section in the engine book.Maybe the injector pump is different too, would at least need different settings.

There are several local to me. One for sure would be available. Marketplace on facebook had a listing of 6 DW 10 and 3 D8 2u's all just out of the barn for the first time in 20 or 30 years. Northern Calif, and as all facebook ads no real details.

A member of Chapter 8 (NJ) has a beautifully restored DW 10 that was at our National Show in Brownsville in 2016. They are still around but I have not idea where parts machines are for scavenging. Search YouTube and I think you will see it in action at Brownsville.

The beautifully restored example in the picture is the early stylized version and is very desirable as a collector. The later ones are not styled but are more rugged looking like the DW-15 and DW-20 The 4600 and the D318 engines are the same basic engine as the D6 crawlers. I have a un-styled DW-10 with a Cat dump wagon. Either style grab it if you can.

I'm glad my thoughts agreed with y'all's thoughts. Now I'm trying to remember exactly what it looked like-considering the pan is a Cat and not LaPlant or LeTourneau I'm thinking it's a later model.

Neil, it's going to be a long time before this thing hits the dirt again. Even so, I'm gonna make you head east to take a test drive. Zagray is less than an hour ride compared to 6+ for Canandaigua!

The one I saw at Brownsville was a bottom dump, I thought maybe Dave Geis' but I think he has a different dump. searched my archives for a pic. Pardon the off-center photography.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
