What do you guys recommend for using for coolant and water for the Cat D7E D339 engine.

I have heard some people talk about the wet liners causing electrolisis etc.

Any truth to this about to put a brand new core in and re fill it. Im in texas so about a 70/30 mix is all we ever use as it doesnt ever get that cold here.

Also for you guys that have rebuilt radiators did you use just the gaskets from Cat or did you put some kind of sealant on as well.

I am re coring the radiator myself.

I have been using Cat DEAC on all my machines with distilled water. Cat recommends 50/50 mix not only for temperature but for cavitation and electrolysis and correct PH
I was told that the extended life antifreeze was not good for older machines

And add two quarts of Cat cooling system conditioner on fresh fill and one quart at every oil change or 250 hrs.

I'd definitely put in the anti-cavitation additive and use distilled water instead of municipal or well water.

I'd use the Cat gaskets and skip the gasket goo. Use new bolts, life is too short.

My cat Dealer is saying they only have the extended life. Will this be ok with the additive?

I already have the cat gaskets and have pile of new bolts.

I think at the end of the day i would have been better off to just let the local radiator shop fix it. But its something i havent done before to add to the list.

Actually they are saying not to use the additive with the extended life.

If so should i just use a generic antifreeze?

Cat has an ASTM spec on the cut sheet for the DEAC so if its the same spec it shouldnt matter?

And add the additive to that and i would think you have the same thing,

Should go without saying but, use anti-seize on the bolts when you put back together. Lots of it.

Pretty sure the extended life coolant already has the anti-cavitation stuff in it already.

You can compare the two here:

https://www.petersoncat.com/sites/cat/files/downloads/Cat%20Extended%20Life.pdf

It says that SCA (Supplemental Coolant Additive) is not needed for ELC, but is required for DEAC.

https://parts.cat.com/en/catcorp/additives#facet:&productBeginIndex:8&orderBy:&pageView:grid&minPrice:&maxPrice:&pageSize:8¤tEndIndex:14&scrollToProductId:undefined&

I think I used Cat DEAC plus Cat's SCA, which came in a quart bottle. The directions on the SCA bottle tell you how much to add per your cooling system capacity. Should be around 12 gallons for a D7E for engine and radiator if I am remembering correctly.
