Hi all, Burdiken Machinery Club have contacted Me regarding a Motor that the Local Cat dealer has passed onto them , They have supplied Me with a serial No of 94C 66 , which is according to the only Book I have , is a Cat 12 Grader S/N made in Australia, it has Direct Electric start , I can only assume this is a conversion as it does not have any Glow Plugs fitted. Anyone help with Age or other Details Please that I can Pass on , thanks in anticipation L.J.

The 94C is the same as the US 8T models. #66 would be an early model with the small pre-com chamber diameter head. Early D318 engines would have the raised boss for DE starter mounting, later models had the pre-drilled DE starter provision.

Hi, Lance.
I don't have any reference books to go by, only my memory, but I think the 94C series was the first series built when Cat started building graders here in DowNunda in about 1954. They then went on to build the 21F series - U.S. equivalent 70-71D - and then the 17K - U.S. equivalent 99E - which, to the best of my understanding, continued here right up until the first G series graders.

As I understand it, we never got the F series Cat 12 graders down here. I only ever saw one F series machine, a Cat 112F, in Perth in about 1969 and I believe it was imported.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Lance,
from my literature, 94C0066 is Australian built and released in 1955 and ran until 1958--from my Caterpillar Serial/Product Identification Number Index, Form No SEBF9451, Dated 5/90,
and the end production date from my Used Equipment Playback, Form No AEXQ0213-0, Dated June 1988.

94C0066 is equivalent to 8T15759, so any Service or Parts books relating that USA Serial Number is what you need.

The engine/trans. package, control box, steering box, and maybe some other parts were shipped to Caterpillar of Australia.
The grade main frame, blade and A frame, Tandem Cases & maybe front axle, were fabricated here and assembled into these machines.
Engine is the Grader version of the D318 of the day, and would likely have been pony start in those days--unless it was special ordered with a Direct Electric Start Attachment.

Hope this help.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

8T15579 is just a few short of 8T15869 which would have the direct start mounting capability but my 8T14782 to 8T21815 parts book doe not show Direct Start as an option and the Parts Book cover states "Gasoline Starting".

Hi Lance,

Look in your TOM magazine issue 200, page 50, you will find the list of Australian built machines, the 94C was followed by the 38E, then the 21F.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
