I would like to remove the magneto from L732 to clean and paint the tractor grey. I know the magneto is probably wrong but it works has been there a long time and is timed correctly. Can somone please direct me a bit on where to find timing marks so I can get it back in the right place when the time comes.
So long since I have uploaded a photo I have lost the knack of doing it will try later.

If it is timed correctly, I would put a paint mark across the coupling, then disassemble.
The mark you are looking for is on the Fan Belt pulley. My experience is that it is hit or miss that it is still on there.

Haven't any knowledge on the Twenty, but a general rule is you need the impulse to fire after TDC. I would find or make a reference mark to indicate when #1 plug fires as a check on any other way of setting the timing

Hi Colin,
the OMI shows that the mag timing mark is on the front face of the flywheel in behind the three bolt plate--or starter motor if fitted--there is a line on the F/wheel and a matching index mark on the bore of the said hole--you just need to know you are on No1 compression stroke and index the distributor gear/rotor brass insert to No 1 on the mag cap.

Suggest you practice a few times, to see where/what I am talking about, and establish your method for future use--a few photos might help a rusty brain recall later.
My mega dollar red General Instruction Books show two possible mag's so you need to establish your method to suit the upgrade you have.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks for replies will try to get back to it soon. Work gets in the way, crops to spray. No fan pulley on a twenty, gear drive fan on this one.
I will paint a mark on the flywheel via the clutch cover for backup.
Got the grey matter into gear and loaded a photo of the magneto. I am guessing it should be eiseman.
There is grey paint under the yellow but it takes a bit of finding

That's a nice looking magneto, I think the Eisemanns are really good looking. The one on my 3J has some nice styling on it

Hi Colin,
the book shows that the two possible magneto's are an Eisemann GV-4, or the CT-4 units, that I would guess are fitted to later units.

Thanks Eddie
This magneto is a CAV not sure of model yet. It does have the advance retard lever typical of earlier units.
The only timing mark i can find via the starter port is a 3/4 " shallow hole in the perimiter of the flywheel. There are two of these holes 180deg apart and one seems very close to No 1 magneto trip. A rough cast bump in the housing could be a timing mark. We will get it, have succeded with less reference marks and chalk marks on flywheels.
cheers Colin

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
