Hello All
Three of the link arms for the tilt are bent on my 944 and the only straight one has been repaired before. I want to repair all the arms but I want to check the lengths before I cut new shafts for them. Roughly measuring the bends it appears the short links are 25.5 inches and the long links are 35.5 inches from center to center. Would anyone who owns a 944 be able to check these dimensions please?

24.5" on the short ones ......checked it twice when I saw what you posted.
35.5" on the long ones

Thank you very much ccjersey. Sorry my bad, I measured the link in metric and converted them to imperial it should have read 24.5". The issue here is I have rounded these dimensions to the nearest half inch as I thought that's what Cat would have done. The only straight one is actually 35 3/8 inches long.

I don't know how they could've bent them. They are 2" diameter solid bars so not easy to bend.

Phil

I think that is accurate. They have some wear and I initially came up with 24-5/8 center to center of the pins. Then I looked at the slack and realised it needed adjusting down.

Hello ccjersey (or anyone else with a 944)
Could I ask you to do one more measurement? Could you measure the distance between the centers of the top pins of the bucket? Mine has no bucket and I am building a quick hitch for it and I am having trouble getting an accurate measurement for the top link centers due to the wear in the pins and bushes but if you have a bucket to measure off it will be far more accurate.

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards

Phil

Can anyone confirm 40" center to center?

39-5/8" center to center.

The link ends are offset 1/2" toward the centerline of the bucket compared to the lower (boom) tips.
Spacers welded inside the upright supports are 3/4 thick on the inside and 1-3/4 thick on the outside for the link ends. I didn't measure the lower spacers, but they appear to be about 3/4" material on each side of the boom pin hole bushings welded inside the same parallel uprights as the top ones..

So, as you can calculate, the link ends are each narrower than the boom tip bushings are and offset toward the centerline a little by the different thickness spacers.

Now I have enough information to build my quick hitch.

Phil C,

Too bad your 15A is not running, otherwise you could build a jig to hold the bent links curved part up, then drive the D8 over them until they go straight. 😊 Maybe you would need a helper with a good rosebud torch too.

Or throw them in your suitcase and we will use the Santa Margarita Ranch D9 to straighten them out for you!

I am like you wondering how they ever got bent in the first place.

See you soon.

I could use the D8 to straighten them but they are not bent anymore😊

With thanks again to ccjersey's info they are straight, painted and back to factory lengths.
