A few months ago I started talking to a friend about his Best 60. He had bought it 5 or so years ago and started to restore and gather parts for the machine. Well he decided to let it go and concentrate on a large Reeves steam engine he is restoring. I was able to do a bit of horse trading and a deal was made. I got back this past monday night from the trip down to Oklahoma. After 5 days and 3,200 miles and a few antique shops as my wife went 😆the Best is home. The motor stayed as a friend is going to redo it top to bottom for me. Going to sertly take some time to get her back to 100% but will be a great project. I have started on the steering clutches first as they are sticky. Will share as I go

I want to thank Caleb 👍and the rest of the Carpenter family for allowing me a chance to own this Best and for all there help in loading

Wow Jason, you are clearly well-thought of! It already looks pretty straight and even has a belt-pulley, my personal favorite. Lon Gisland certainly is developing a body of interesting gear. I think we're all now looking forward to the inaugural open day : )

Things are looking great. Black and oily is good for a machine of its age.

Think I filled a cardboard box with the grease. Stuff was thick. I added a bit of diesel fuel to thin out the grease to clean. Next weekend should get it finished

Well I didn't want to get rid of it as it is really nice tractor with little wear. Probably never own another 2 speed small crank top seat best 60 but hey it went to a good home......

Here's a picture of the bored and sleeved BEST cylinders.
The friend of mine that was helping me with the machine work on engine is going to help Jason complete it.
The engine will be 100% those cylinders are sleeved to standard bore and we're going to turn the pistons back to standard and cut new ring grooves. Rings are already purchased.

The heads are getting all new guides, seats, valves and valve springs.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
