Hi All,

I run a nature conservancy in Kenya and we are trying to refurbish an ancient CAT 33 pull behind grader. It is an ancient machine that has been used on the conservancy for decades. We are bringing it back to life as we have 500km of roads to grade on a tight budget but are having difficulty working out the front wheel angling connections since they were damaged and must have been removed at some point. I’m trying to reach out to anyone who might have the designs, parts or any knowledge on how the connection through the central column attaches to the gearbox on the front axle.

Many thanks,

Hi, GMFkenya.
Welcome to the forum. 500 miles of roads to grade with that Number 33, that's quite a project. Just keep at it and you'll get there.

I am attaching a photo of a Cat Sixty leaning wheel grader brochure which may not be exactly the same but would be similar. You can see a part of the lean wheel gear rack on the lean wheel crossbar behind the axle and in front of the scarifier. Sadly, it is the only photo I have. Hope it helps.

About 311 miles Deas, lol. Still a bunch to grade with anything but especially with a 33.

Hi, seiscat.
I musta bin inna hurry and missed the 'klms' bit. Thanks for the heads-up.

I suspect that using a small cat terracer behind a crawler might be worse. LOL.

Thanks Deas. Its a great picture but I need the technical details. I was hoping someone might have one they could get right into and take some pics.

Thanks Erik, really useful. I'll send them on to the engineers. You don't happen to know anyone who has one? Some close up pics would also be of help.

Hi Gilbert, that would be awesome. The real issue is the connection through the central column on the front axle to the gearbox. There seems to be a shaft that goes from the connecting rod at the top through the main ball and socket joint, possibly attaches to another 2 shafts and then into the gear box. This controls the angling of the front wheels. If you can get close up pics of how this all connects and possibly the dimensions of the connecting parts, as I think we might have to manufacture since I cannot find another one in Kenya, it would be a huge help.

Thanks so much,

N

So Erik just confirmed its actually a 44 not a 33 from the serial number. Many thanks for sorting that one out!

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
