I think the shutoff valve for the pony tank on my D2-5U is leaking internally.
It's a 1/4 turn brass valve, anybody know if these are still available?

Not familiar with that style on the 5U unless it is an early unit? You might find one of the more common valve/filter units.

Hi Team,
on later U and other machines with ponies Cat fitted an extra tap to overcome flooding the pony with petrol/gas when shut off.
The un-initiated often forget the second tap and curse ponies for being cantankerous.
Keep Smiling,

a picture would help, it should have the valve / sediment bowl on it, my guess somebody broke the glass bowl and put that valve in it

I'll try to get a picture this weekend. previous owner removed the sediment bowl and added a inline filter instead.
possible that this valve came from the local hardware store.....

Mm nice pics which confirm my second valve is the same as yours and not one someone hacked up...it's a genuine odd looking piece!

Not a fan of the second lower valve. My experience is that anything bad collects in the lower pipes & valve: water & sediments. On donor tractors those pipes are frequently found to be stopped up or rusted through. Also I have had air lock in that system. I had cleaned out the carb & lines, put in fresh gas and couldn't get it running. Took of the carb top and no gas. I had to blow into the tank to get the air out of the lines. My best running D2 has a short line directly from the filter valve to the carb, it seems to work fine. I did have a leaky valve once, but I think the second valve was added by Cat to put all the pony controls on the left side, as I have to walk around the tractor to shut off the gas, I always check the cyl head drains for accumulations before starting anyway. I can guarantee that a rope starting pony will train you in the best way to start it! I hear the class has high attrition rate.

That's exactly what I did to my D2 and D4

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
