Last year I bought a new set of rollers for my D47U (1950) but like everything else they are still waiting to be installed. The Cat is the std 4 roller originally an AG tractor.

Can I replace the rollers without splitting the track or is worth the trouble to do it without splitting it? I have been spraying Kroil on the threaded bar every couple of weeks hoping that will free up the bolts. I have all new bolts and just need to get ambitious to do it. Any other tips?

Chains appear to be in good shape and I really don't want to replace them.

Thanks

on my D6 9U it was "easy" to change all the rollers without removing the tracks. big blocks of wood, big air powered bottle Jack, and time and motivation.

if they don't unbolt - then the fun starts.

I did my RD4 last year Jim and it was pretty straight forward, just backed the track adjusters right off then sat the Cat on 2 good sized blocks of wood either end so the track sagged down in the middle, hardest part is wriggling the rollers in and out on your own, those things are heavy as you know. I ended up putting a small garage jack in under the track to lift the new roller up to the track frame while I got the bolts in, that made the job a lot easier.

This is from a D2 manual but you can use the same method for the D4;

To my knowledge all the old Cat rollers nowadays come from Italy or somewhere thereabouts. Your local Cat dealer can get them but depending on stock etc throughout the USA it may take a few weeks to get them and there may be freight involved. I was lucky and got mine from a local Kansan that had a set for sale.
It is also advantageous to check with your Cat dealer to see what the correct part number is now. For example the D4 rollers for my Cat are part numbers 1181608 for the single flange and 1181609 for the double flange roller. Singles are about $350 and Doubles are about $450 and if they have to come from another location there can be freight on top of that. You can also search for rollers by the latest numbers online to see what is available. Needless to say the replacement rollers are oil filled and not the older original grease lube type.

As a separate idea, how about joining our club and help them out and at the same time you will get a ten fold return on all the information and ideas you will get from it.
Good luck.
