A while back, I was trying to see if I could find Hapco spark arrestors, I have purchased these years ago and consider them to be the classic spark arrestor that I have seen used around here. I looked all over, found one NOS one for a ridiculous price, finally after chasing a source in Asia, someone from Hapco contacted me.
Turns out Hapco Spark Arrestors, are still made by the same company as they have been for a long time. The arrestors are well made, heavy steel, made in Oregon reasonably priced, and approved for forestry use.
Pictured is a pair I purchased for a D2.

I have no connection with this company, just passing along information.

Look just about like the old rain traps. Do they require a rain cap though?

Thanks Josh. Talk about timing! Silly question; has anyone installed one with a muffler, or does it already help deaden the sound of the exhaust? I have some NOS rain traps; do they function similarly or am I way off base? I am going to tackle a small discing job that is a major fire hazard. I am going to mount a pair of large fire extinguishers on the fenders of a D6 and possibly a 50 gallon water tank and pump system as well. I’m doing my best at NOT having a blazing enferno! Glad the rains have come to reduce the chance of an uncontrollable burn. JM

They do cut the sound a little, much better than a straight pipe, but they are not a muffler, they can and are used after a muffler in some applications, these are not rain traps.

Okay cool. I have a better idea of what to do. Didn’t want to be incorrect on my application and have a catastrophe. Thanks

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
