Hi guys. As most will know I’m on doing a cat 2 ton up. Someone posted on my Facebook page about a Komatsu that looks like a 2 ton. When I went onto Komatsu history page this pic turned up. It’s very similar to my 2 ton.
Anyone know anything about it??
Thanks guys

From my understanding they copied the 2 TON, they were used to pull armaments about in the jungle during WWII, I have been told that they also made a copy of an early D4.

A book titled ' A history of Komatsu - Volume 1 by Arthur McNae (Australia) lists that Komatsu studied the Caterpillar 2 ton in 1930 and produced castings quite easily but initially had problems producing the engine.
A new engine was produced at the end of 1932 with satisfactory results.
The tractors became designated G25. Up until production ceased in 1943 a total of 238 G25's were produced.

From 1934 a demand for larger tractors emerged and trial production started on a tractor based on the Best 30.
In 1934 the G40 a 50hp, 4ton petrol engine tractor was completed.
A total of 421 G40 tractors wer built between 1936 and 1945.

They went on to produce other tractors similar to the RD4 designated the D35 and other model ranges D50 (looks like at Cat Diesel 35) etc.

The book has pictures of A G25 s/n 63 awaiting restoration which was found working in China.

A G40 takes pride of place in the entrance hall at the Awazu plant. This machine was found working on a farm outside of Sydney Australia.
the radiator has a casting of T40 denoting its weight at 4 tons.

Hope this gives a brief history.

It was early 70's maybe late 60's when I came accross a Komatsu that looked just like a D6C, could have sworn it was a copy or that CAT had liscensed the production to Japan?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
