Screens and root rake on D6D

More
6 years 2 months ago #191338 by Kwright
I have a few questions and I appreciate all answers.
1. Where can I purchase rear and side screens for my D6D?
Should I have the screens manufactured by a local welding shop?

2. What would I have to do to add a root rake?

3. I’m replacing all the filters and oils?
Engine oil type?
Transmission oil?
Finals oil?

4. Can I change the oil without removing the belly plan?

Thanks
Kenny

Hi, Kwright.
I think it would be a pretty that there would still be manufactured screens available for your D6D. Azfer the root rake, it depends on what you might call a root rake and/or what you want it for. There are simple ones only blade width that simply pin on to lugs welded to the blade face with a beam at the bottom and a row of rake teeth.

Then there are more specialized versions such as the ones you can see in this video:

Or in this one:

The company in the first video is a local one, here in DowNunda, about 2 hours drive from my home. The second one is even more local, about a 1/2 drive from home but I suspect that there will be some companies doing something similar in your neck of the woods. An internet search may well provide the information that you seek.

There should be a cover plate in the front belly guard to give access to the oil pan drain plug. Some later Cat tractors 'ackshully' had an access through the side of the belly guard to a dfrain valve which dropped the oil through a nearby hole on the bottom of the guard.

Just my 0.02. Hope it helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Kenny,

You could try Kenco Manufacturing Company, Atoka OK, phone 580 889 5222.

Try looking at their website www.kencomfg.com and see if the have what you want.

There will be other engineers and businesses that build what you want as well, just have to search for them.

Regards, Wombat

I would suggest you get hold of an operation and maintenance guide or current oil specs the oil specs, or phone your Caterpillar Dealer. What was correct for a D6D thirty years ago when I knew what to put in may have changed by now.
