WF , You are Right ,they are a Pain ,a while since I did a set, But You have to Strip the Carrier Roller apart to get the Cover off .
I have a Twenty Tail seat that is waiting in line for Resto , Original tracks and All, But 2 cyls frozen up ,[Was parked under a Tree and No Cover on Exhaust when Found ]I have Had Diesel in them for Months and it hasn't Gone down the Gurgler yet ! I have 3 NOS pistons on Hand ,so probably need them and a Sleeve Job, Bearings Look excellent , Valves could well be a problem. Not touching it till I clear a couple other Projects Out. How is Your Season Going, I know south and west of You is OK. LJ
You are exactly right disassemble the carrier roller, lift track and hold while raising the center guard up and over the roller stand. Remove by lifting and rolling the guard to clear the top of the roller stand. Will need to remove the front idler cover and remove the securing bracket on the rear guard before removing the center guard.
Thanks for replies. I have not had a lot of time today. Lifted track removed carrier roller grease nipple and dust cover. Still can't get it around the inner track frame suport arm. Will have to hold my tounge right another day and I am sure we will win.
This 90 year old tractor is amazing. Very little rust and only one stubborn bolt so far. It held the seat backrest on so no big deal to cut that one. All upholstery will need replacement although the seat spring base is in good condition. Some areas that have never had paint are still in excellent condition. Tracks are well worn but still have the origional round edge plates.
Getting an inlet valve spring in 2 days from dealer stock in Melbourne was a big surprise.
Still a lot of cleaning before it gets a coat of battleship grey. A bit of work on the track frame covers to do yet but they are really not too bad.
cheers WF
edit Lance crops are getting rather thirsty about ready to write some off.

There are 5 bolts holding the center guard down to the outside rails of the track roller frame. Then if straight the guard should raise up, raise it up till it clears the sprocket and till it clears the roller stand then move the guard in the forward direction slightly, then tilt forward a slight bit and roll the back edge over the stand helping to remove it. That should help you remove it.
WF,
As I remember, the shaft with the carrier roller needs to come off for the guard to clear the support. Maybe you are saying that. I just did not see it in your description.
