A fellow coworker from years ago that also hoards Cat D4 dozers and Lincoln SA 200 welders, offered this piece for my consideration. A D3400 with 300 A Westinghouse welding generator. I can think on it for probably quite a while, power unit stuck and gen turn nice and free. Pony start with direct drive over center clutch. Price $0, and free delivery.

Yes, I do have a soft spot for vintage Cat equipment, but I think this piece is some what rare. Besides the other children need someone to talk to at night!

Ser# 3S7358 power unit

Westinghouse #1367362 C ser 16-49

Well?
I think you need another project!
AgMike rebuilt a Welder unit and loves the way it welds!
I think OIH got one too and is really happy with it!

i'd get it! then find out if cat built it. try and find out what cat called it, look 4 literature. contact westinghouse archivist?

cat built this 1 in 1955, they special ordered 2 300 amp lincoln welders gang together inline and then barely marketed it.

So far I have found out that it is called 'Flex Arc' welder. 16th machine built 1949. Literature for the Cat power unit 3S7358 is available from the archives. Trying to find anymore on the generator might be a challenge. Westinghouse was bought by CBS and was dissolved and gone by 1980.

Other machines from the era. Electric motor driven.

I am a Lincoln SA200 man. Can't beat the stability and arc control in the older machines. The stuff today will put down wire but not nears as nice.

Now to find a Cat powered compressor. Vintage of course!

How would you know if it was a Cat machine or Westinghouse ? The believe the year built is 1949 by the tag on the generator.
The power unit is a D3400. I have to get it back to the property to really investigate. As I go along I am getting more enthused about it !
