Tim,

You really need to go on eBay and buy the Operators, Service and Parts manuals for your tractor. I had a 14A come into my possession and had very little idea on how to work on it. At times, the Service Manual leaves an inexperienced guy like me hanging but over all they are very helpful. The Operators Manual covers most adjustments and has pictures which are most helpful.

Best of luck with your 15A and a video of it working when you get to that point will make folks happy on here.

I do have a parts manual, service manual and a operators manual. Problem is the operator manual is for the 14A and 15A before the oil cooled clutches and breaks. I'd wait to get a book on eBay but my boss suggested moving the D8 from work to my new place Sunday. Really the only thing left to service is to adjust the right hand clutch and break.

1. Remove clutch compartment covers.
2. Turn the front adj. screw clockwise until the band is tight, the turn all the way back out. Turn the rear adjusting screw all the way in, then adjust with the front.
3. For the proper clearance turn the adjusting screw out 1 1/2 turns.

This is not real clear. I tighten the front then back it all the way out. I then tighten the rear. Then back to the front, tighten and back off 1 and 1/2 turns.
It then works very well.

I have not had to adjust the clutches.

Is it the cover right under the fuel tank?

Tim,

Sorry but I did not know you already had the manuals but I was going by your questions looking for details. In my "14A/15A Operation and Maintenance Instructions" booklet, the oil type steering clutches adjustments discussion begins on P. 72. The dry type are discussed at P 78 so both types appear in my book. On P.73 there is a picture of the access plate which is partially under the tank.

I hope this helps a bit.

The left one is under the seat, looking back it's to your right. The right one you lift the floor and it's right there. You have to work the rear adjusters from the back of the tractor. If you haven't removed the covers before, you turn the four pin nut counter clockwise until loose. Then rotate the top lever 90 deg.

Hi Team,
I saved this from a previous post on this same subject and is somewhat blurry as copied from the ACMOC BB. Double click the image to enlarge. Sometimes these can print clearer than the view
Alas, I do not have a copy of the January 1960 Service Reporter in my literature to give you a clearer image.
Hope it helps, involves making a template to set everything up in a simpler manner.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks for the help folks. We loaded up my D8 and moved it from my bosses place to where I'll be building my shopand house. Big improvement with the steering. Still could use some work but it will do ok for now.

What I'm experiencing is sometimes now it seems the left hand steering clutch won't release and you have to pull really hard on thee er to get it to do so. Sometimes twice. You can feel it in the lever but the tractor just stops moving.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
