The nut out on the end was stripped off. Sometimes I’ve seen just the nut be bad but the reads on my axle are rounded pretty bad. Anybody had any luck with a bush fix for this short of replacing the dead axle.

You don't need to get a new axel, the threads can be restored on the old one in a machine shop....WA7OPY

Yep that was what I meant. I was just hoping I didn’t have to tear it that far down if I could keep from it.

do you think a new nut and locktite would work, and/or a spot weld on the end?

I thought about building it back up and try to chase new threads on it.

I would not do that, the shafts are a high alloy steel. Without the right preheat and welding the shaft with brake off. The chances of getting it ground round and threaded are slight. If the new nut will not fix the problem, pull the axle and make friend with the machinist. My 2 cents....WA7OPY

Was trying to keep form pulling axle and having to press off gears.

ITR make a good quality aftermarket dead axle for these tractors at a realistic price. That thread has a big job to do. Issue is if the thread fails and the outer bearing hub comes loose on the shaft then its likely to ruin the shaft and bearing holder anyway.

Although if your threads are buggered on the axle then removing it maybe a challenge using the cat pullers.

You can get a new 2S-7062 aftermarket dead shaft in Dallas for $600, or you could get Holt out there with their mobile machine shop for $15-18 thousand.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
