Anybody have a handle on a source of grey for the early Cats. I've got a 29 vintage Cat Ten that will need paint in the near future and was looking for a auto paint or other source that will work. I've seen a thread in the past that gave some sources and numbers but I lost track of that poop. I was chasing down some paint for my early Thirty and got a little discouraged because the paint that matched what I needed costs near $200/gal
with the reducer and hardener. I was expecting maybe $50/gal.
Any help greatly appreciated.

The Fed. color numbers are on the Home page of ACMOC getting there may be a diff issue, take the no. for the red and the grey to any good paint store and the can mix to match the fed no. in most any type or cost of paint you want The paint being put on the BSOT raffle 22 is $239 per gallon but you can get same color in Rustolem for $31

It seems if you have a part that,s not faded you could take it to an Automotve Parts store like a NAPA or others and they could match and mix up a batch for you.NAPA might even have a listing of older Cat paint to go by.

I bet you could get a great match if you have some original paint. They color scan and do a electronic match which probably would get you closer than some of the variations of the original paint. My problem is someone painted the tractor Hwy yellow at some time in it's past and the original paint either isn't there or is very much weathered.
I remember having some trouble finding a Rustoleum supplier that would mix the paint because they couldn't find the Federal number. I found Dupont (G 9721) and Ditzler (33127) but like I said, got turned off by the $200/gal price tag. I guess this was some really good paint that would take the weather in stride but I keep my Cats inside most of the time and they don't get much exposure to the elements. It's hard to justify the better paint in that situation.
I'll just have to renew my search for Rustoleum.
I appreciate the help!

You can get the paint from these people. Call the plant and they will give you the name and phone number of a mail order dealer or your local dealer. You can tolerate the price also.

I took the federal #s into two paint stores I deal with and both can match the colors. I have the gray matched in Dupont's Nason from the local paint store and also with a paint company in Madison Wi that deals in industrial paint. At this point I plan on painting our club's 20 with Nason as it will not be doing that much work. But the cost will be up there. I would think thet the machine being painted for the show in CA that they might be using waterbase paints because of solvents. I did not have any problems using the Federal #s

I look at it this way,you spent all time and effort getting it ready to paint so use the good and just do it once!

price nason brand paint. Use the duPonte paint code. Nason is a cheaper line of duponte. Also if anyone needs a paint code in duponte, all I need is a 3 to 4 inch square of the color and I can get the duponte #. Dennis

We have been quite happy with mixing equal parts of white and black paint for the gray. We usually use nason but I am sure others would give the same results. I will see if my boys can post a picture of a Sixty and Thirty that have this paint. I think you would be quite satisfied. Gene
