Recently bought D8 14A8430 (1957) with a 127 ccu. Im not familiar with the ccu yet but have been reading the owners manual when I can. As the ccu warms I have to pull harder and harder on the lever. Eventually its almost impossible to pull hard enough with both arms to raise the blade. I have not adjusted it yet. My question, is it needing clutch discs or adjusting? Outside of that she is a well maintained old workhorse. New reversible fan and radiator core, new salt rails, sprockets, top and bottom rollers and built up idlers and converted to 24v electric start. Thanks for any tips and advice.

The adjustment procedure is pretty simple. Also, maybe hit up in there with a pressure washer and knock out years of accumulated gunk. You may pull the cover(s) off to lube and soak everything to make sure linkages are free. Lastly - got oil in it ? All of this is free (time only) to try.

Hi, Catfan.
I only have the adjustment instructions for #29 unit but I don't think there is much if any difference in the procedure. Hope it helps'

Right click on the image, select "Open In New Window' - when image opens run your mouse cursor over it and there will likely be a + sign in a white circle - click on that to enlarge the image.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Oil and grease leaks are the big enemies of CCU's, once the lined discs have been exposed to either it's really hard to clean them, you can clean the surface but they will weep when warmed up. Adjust as advised if that doesn't do it pull the cover, pressure plate and inspect the discs. Nice straight 14a you have
