Just got done rebuilding the pony motor and while trying to start dozer, could not get fuel to the diesel engine. Took apart fuel filter housing and found out why.
tractor has been sitting for many years. I'm curious how this housing works. Does the lower part fill up and then force it's way past the square plastic rods and spring loaded
tabs into the top of the housing???

You are correct, all the filter towers of that era work pretty much the same.

J the square rods are in a round hole and that's where the filtered fuel goes.

You didn't state what you found in the housing that stopped the flow of fuel?

I found on tractors that have set for years that the tubes from the transfer pump to the top of the filter housing and the tube from the top of filter housing to the injection pump housing can get plugged. When I had the filter housing removed I blew them out with air and slugs of crud came out. Good to go through the whole system if they have set a long time, also seals get hard or brittle over time and start to leak when the machine is operated again.

my tower was 3/4 full of black gunky mud.
