Post the serial number for your D-7. The operation and maintenance manuals are easily obtained on eBay. It will be necessary to purchase a parts book for your tractor too. I just picked up both for less than $15.00 each for my 17A D-7 on eBay. The full mark is below the writing on the dipstick.
The oil should be overfull on dipstick when the motor is't running by 3/4 inch
Yes, you check with the engine running but NOT right after you start it up. Work it a hour and then park it on a level spot and check the oil then. If you are done with it for the day, let it sit overnight and then you can check it before you start it up. If oil checked right on the full mark the day before, you are good to go to mark it where it is at when it is cold. Some machines have a cold mark and a running mark on them. International dozers is one like that. I always like to check it at noon when I stopped for lunch and again in the evening when I quit. If it was low at the end of the day, I put oil in right away so it was full in the morning. catskinner
Thanks guys I will do all as suggested. I'll get the serial number today while at the ranch and post it. I guess once I know what year or model it is I can get the right books for it. I'll also check the oil as you recommend. Thanks a lot.
Hi guys;
Well oil issue seems to be resolved as to checking and knowing it is okay. Thanks for the input.
The serial number is post in a photo below it is 3T22986 if I got the right number. It was on the left rear of the frame just below the seat stamped into the frame. The second is an overall picture of the D7. If anyone can tell me which model I have I'll get the manuals ordered for it. Thanks
I have a separate question as to electric start that is on the machine. I'll post that on a separate post so I don't get confused as to what is being talked about. Thank you again.

Welcome to ACMOC chief. That is a great looking late series 3T D7. Please take the time to locate the books especially the Operation and Maintenance Instructions. There is a lot of information that if you don't know about or follow can be very expensive! I would hate to see such a nice machine abused because of lack of info. There have been so many starting engines destroyed because of improper procedures. Here is a pic of the books you need.

I have a spare parts book if you need it let me know. I do not have an extra Operation and Maintenance Instructions book but I will try to answer your questions.
