D2-5J update was created by drujinin
Since it has sat in the garage all winter with the clutches soaking in Kero/tranny fluid. It came time to roll the Ford Model A out of the shop and the move the "Kitty" in. Funny it seems that the couple of times I looked for the Master Links they seem to be over 5 links away from from each other. (FANTASY??) Anyways by the time I dragged it out and executed one hard right turn and one hard left turn then pushed it into the shop. The Master Links were within 3 links of each other! (I must be dreaming!)
This had to be done now before the frost goes out or nothing moves around here until May as the clay turns to mud!
Moral of the story is to all you guys that are looking for a quick fix to stuck clutches, mine has pretty much sat for 10 months soaking and HOPEFULLY dissolving the rust.
We all will know in a couple of weeks after I take one side apart. I don't know why I am obsessed with fixing these steering clutches?
Do I have CAT Scratch Fever????

Friday was spent pulling the head off to find the number 3 two piece piston is of the MULTI-piece design! :(
Fortunately the liner is good!
Saturday afternoon I chain one side and jacked up the other and not surprising but found the clutches still thoroughly stuck! Chained one track and Come-Alonged the other! Oh Well! I would rather fix it lie new, then have no worries1
I am in need of a good or decent an original 2 piece piston or factory replacement style used piston (hopefully my rings will fit). If someone knows of one I would appreciate a PM.
Thanks,
drujinin

5J6334SP which doesn't seem to fit the numbers provided by a friends 5J parts book?
"5J parts book shows 5B9349 up to 5J1749 and 6B2263 for 5J1750--1863"
Can anyone help me?

Thanks!
This is starting to look like a case of as long as it is close in weight to the other 3 pistons to maintain balance. Any one of the three part numbers will fit.

I want to THANK everyone for the help in teaching me and assisting in finding a piston! A guy called me last night and said he has available 2 rods and pistons. I may still need a piston if his are not good enough. We'll see!
Thanks Again!

might consider replacing all four pistons if they are all the old two-piece type. those had a nasty reputation for coming apart. If it were me, I'd be looking for a full set.

I run D2 5J3691, pistons were changed looooooooong ago.

A guy asked me at work if I was changing the rings on the piston. I didn't commit to an answer because supposedly you can change the piston as long as you re-use the rings that are broken in to the liner. The engine doesn't smoke or act as if it has low compression. But I am thinking that if I pull the oil pan, why not pull all the pistons and clean the ring grooves?
Does anyone have an opinion on changing rings only?

It doesn't work that way.
Changing rings involves the same process as if the liners and rings are new. Requires the cross hatch honing of the bores to obtain seating. No way you can return old rings to original seating. Also rings are relatively cheap and should be replaced.

I fiddling around trying to get the belly skid plate off the bottom of the tractor. Gave up and removed the fenders and hydraulic oil and fuel tanks. Stood up front staring at the hole to put a crank in under the radiator. Checked the Crankshaft and found a Rachet Nut to install a Crank!
You can't possibly hand crank start a D2 Diesel can you?
WHY!!!!
Is it an R2 leftover part?
