Hey guys,

I am sure most of you already know about this but for those who don't.

The fuel pump vent screw wrench part# 8B6975 is still an orderable part from the Cat dealer, it changes up to a 1/4" drive socket part# 5P-2682
The drain plug wrench part# 6F3703 is also still orderable through the Cat dealer, it changes up to two part#'s 213-1985 (handle) and 212-8146 (socket) (I know ACMOC also produces this wrench as an original)

I have attached pictures of both in case anyone is interested. When I found out that they were still available through the dealer, I more or less wanted to see what they looked like for curiosity sake.
I am happy with what they are and how they look - nice to be able to put a longer ratchet on the drain plug socket if need be.

Cheers
Nate

Thanks for sharing Nate. I found one of those plug adapters in one of my recent purchases, but wasn't too sure if that's what it was. Much better than the cast type wrench sometimes in tight spots. JM

I have a couple of those new 1/4 drive bleeder sockets and unfortunately it only works on two of the four injection pump bleeders on my 5U. The intake manifold is too close to enable the socket to be used with an extension. I have a small 1/4 wrench open-end and ring-end, but what I need is a double-ender where the open ends are on different angles so that I can get between the injector lines, because there is not enough of a swing. I understand the old original bleeder wrench was set up this way. I'm going to get my guy to make me one.
The 1/4 drive socket works fine on the 3J engine so that's where it'll live.

Thanks for sharing Neil, I am disappointed to learn that the socket will not work on all the bleeders. Did you by any chance try it using a 1/4" wobble extension on it to get at the 2 that the intake it to close on? When the socket is pushed on all the way its just like a regular extension, but when the socket is only clicked in the first notch, it gives some swivel motion to get into tighter spots. I don't know if it will make for enough room or not.
I will have to monkey with a bit and see what I can come up with to be able to use it.

I purchased the socket last year and recently needed it for my D2 5U. If you look the socked has a head on it so you can also turn it with a wrench. Two of the bleeders I used it with a ratchet and the other two I turned it with a wrench.

That's what I ended up trying as well seyser and it did the job. I think I also monkeyed with the wobble extension but it was a bit sketchy - seemed to not always grab but then those bleeders don't have to be tight so it's probably enough

I like to remove those needle valves, clean the threads and never-seize em.
