Not sure we're talking about the same spot but there is a mounting block attached to the track frame just about behind the trunion mount. The attaching bolt for the guard at this location is inaccessible with the cylinder mount in place as there is not enough room to remove the bolt. One of my D4's has a small hole torched into the mount to access the bolt but normally this is not provided.

Hi ch,
you may get lucky if the person fitting the blade mount followed the Cat Instructions and slotted the bolt holes in the guards so you could loosen the bolts and slip the guard up off it/them.
We always did this at The Dealer way back when.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks Eddie. my guards are pretty rusted away down where the bolts go through and the bolts are all twisted off. I have new guards ordered from MA CAT so i will slot the new ones when i get the old dutchmen out and new bolts installed. i am having trouble where at the front corner of the rear final drive guard where there is much old compacted dirt packed between the hydraulic cylinder mount and the track frame. i think there might be a small block welded to the dozer mount to aid in installation that has the guard pinched. or is it just built up old dirt that has turned to concrete??

Similar situation on my D4 not sure because I didn't take anything a part but I did try to pull my guards out and have that concrete compact dirt in mine also. I dug with screwdrivers and pressure washer and couldn't get mine out. Really seems like they are pinched between the frame
I'm not sure what you mean. I installed the 4S side arms on my 7U a couple of years ago and where the bellcrank for lifting and lowering the blade is, it also bolts to the inside of the track frame with a heavy duty bracket. As far as the track guards go, I added those to my 7U also. They are heavy duty rock guards that keep the tracks from coming off in steep country, and the dozer arms and track guards are not connected. I didn't find any places I couldn't get a bolt in. Snap a picture or two and post them to further define what help you are needing.
