This machine is going up for auction right down the street form my house, however I can't get to it to find the serial number of it. I was wondering if anyone could ID it and give me a rough estimate of the year it's from. My family already has some older pieces we take to shows and I would like to add a CAT dozer to the collection (An HT4 would be even better). And since this is so close to us, it makes nothing but sense. However, the main show we go to yearly requires all equipment to be from 1958 or older.

They're advertising it on the auction site as a '1970's' cat dozer... I some how doubt that by looking at it and the fact it appears to have a pony motor.

Here are some pictures, thanks!

That looks to be an early D4-7U model, late 40's or early 50's with the low air cleaner and early #44 hydraulic control. Not a bad looking unit with all Cat blade setup. Seat tank is a later add, would have been side tank originaly.

Looks like it has a D2 seat tank on it.

Looks to be in good shape, as the blade/frame don't look all beat up and there appears to be some track adjustment left.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
