Hey everyone,

I thought It being such a great occasion I would post about it. Yesterday my grandfathers road construction company celebrated its 50th year in business. We had a big party in honor of his milestone. Yes we are very proud, it has always been a very large passion of mine. Although I don't work for him anymore, I sure take advantage of every chance to get out to his jobs and take a spin on a scraper if one is sitting.

In 1967 he had been saving up for a while, and purchased a 2U D8 (seen in pictures) He started of by clearing bush in the winter and then breaking the land in the spring for farmers. He also buried stone piles. In 1968 the RM that he lives in asked him to build some road, so he had to grow his fleet. And added a D7 and pull scraper to build the road. It was then that he realized he was going to be a road builder, and in the fall of 69 purchased a pair of used DW21's. He ran with this fleet for 4 years and only added a grader. In 1974 he bought a brand new 627B from the local Cat dealer, Kramer Tractor, and then another new 627B in 1978. From there the fleet has just grown and grown.
He now runs 8 scrapers, 6 articulated trucks, 7 excavators, 10 dozers, 4 graders, loaders, wheel dozers, backhoes, skid steers, and so many other support machines. He has defiantly been an inspiration to me, to see what he has accomplished over the last 50 years.

Mog5858 ??? what machine is missing? The 2U down in Estevan is on the list to pick up this summer finally so we can make one out of the two. That D6 I found were not sure if we want to buy yet or not, guy wants to much for it. And the Sixty, we still need to get ahold of the old farmer to make him an offer.

Cheers,
Nate

Your Grandpa did well. We can make a pretty sure bet that he worked hard and went thru some hard times on the way. Listen close to his stories and capture all the knowledge you can. It is priceless. Thanks for posting.

Hi Nate, That's a very nice collection of good ol' Cat iron!

It was a great pleasure meeting and chatting with you and your grandpa Cameron Friday evening at 'The Guest House' restaurant. :hungry:

Tell your grandpa that I said congratulations on his 50 years in business. That's quite a great milestone to reach for sure...he must be doing SOMETHING right!

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
