Does the spring have to be removed to repair a leaky (around the shaft) tensioner?

No, it does not but you have the option of either removing the spring assembly or the front idler push rod assembly to do the repairs.

Removing the spring may of course create a whole lot of extra issues to deal with!.....as i found out

Does the 17A have factory hydraulic adjusters or the aftermarket conversion type shown in GP's video. The adjuster portions are not the same.

Daron, when I repaired Pops 14A hyd adjuster (other repairs too) we split the tracks. If Petes bringing his mega sledge to drive the track pin out make a holder that will bolt to the track pad and hold the punch for you. If you torch the pins make an X in the pin ends then your large punch won't get wedged inside the pin.
