Great rally pictures Ianoz. I appreciate you posting them for the worlds enjoyment. I really enjoy looking at Cats, tractors, trucks, and all things mechanical. Looked to be some very dedicated restoration folks there. It is interesting to see how even familar vehicles are modified to work in different conditions. That self propeled baler was over the top. I have never seen one like that before. Now I wonder how well it performed.

There is a lot of roads unfenced to ,so cattle are a problem ,Couple of photos i took coming back from a job .

Even on fenced roads , cattle do get out .,About 12 months about a friend of mine was north bound up the highway .With Traffic heading towards him a beast ran out in front of him Or more correctly into the side of the truck.Had he hit it headon , would not have been so ba .it went between the Front wheel and the fuel tank .Jamming and locking the wheel up. He was then just a passenger along for the ride ,Ended up on its side in the table drain .. Wrote the 6 week old truck off .

I guess they make sure they rarely if ever have to reverse those doubles and triples, it would be interesting to see someone doing so.

Hi John, it's a matter of professional pride to be able to do it so I suspect that it might get done more often than is strictly necessary ; ) I used to back around the wharves in Wellington for fun (I know, should have been down at the bar chatting to women...) It's not too bad - the trickier one I found was a full trailer behind a semi - found that a lot more mentally taxing than a double but it's probably equivalent to a triple (which I've not tried) but with less forgiving reaction times (short drawbar, long body). Wegmans, the local grocer here, has a fleet of full-trailer hauling semis and they fit the two-axle dolly under the front of the rear semi before hitching the front semi to it. I've never seen them back one. The dolly drawbar is about 10-12' from the hitch pin to the center of the tandem, but the semi is the full 40' or whatever it is. The hitch on the front semi is only about 6-8' from the center of the front semi tandem. One feature that makes it a LOT easier is a locking pin in the turntables.

Cheers,
Neil

I wonder what the operator looked like after bailing hay all day. I bet he gained a few pounds just breathing in all the dust. M

Hi all, Allora Rally went of Real Good. thanks for the Pics Ianoz and Deas, Sunday's Crowd was probably the Biggest I have seen there, Usually second day is Quiet, But Saturday was Hot and Very Humid [My Sunburn reminds Me ] and Sunday was much Better ,We had 13 Cats on display including Bob Jefferies "Minnie D6 "
OK now a few Answers to Some of the Question's , OIH . That self Propelled Baler is a New Holland 1282 based on a 281 PTO unit or the Model before based on a 78 , I have seen several out here and they Came from the USA !! had a V4 Wisconsin Motor . I ran New Holland for probably 20 odd years before I saw the Light and Bought a German made Welger, just Brilliant !! New Holland never Brought out Their Western Baler here , [3 string or Wire ] thank Goodness !!
Of interest [Per photo ] was a David Brown Trackmaster , 4 cyl. Petro/ Kero., predecessor to the 30D-50D crawlers that were Out Here , nice tidy Unit. and in the trucks [no photo] was a Beautiful restored FORD LTL " Kentucky " I stand to be Corrected but I think there were a dozen or so Brought out Here

Chapter 18 still some CD's of the QHR Oakey Rally on hand , We only Received them on Saturday so be Quick if You want one ,these were done from a Drone and are Really Great . $15aud plus postage
3

, Gaunt John , Nothing super special about Hooking up AB Triple and triple Road trains ,2 of My grandsons having been doing it for some time for their Father and they are only 17 and 15 now !! Don't think I could do it now at My age .

Some talk about Bull bars for Roo's etc. , ,Well out west [Outback Aust. to our US friends ] I have seen Dead Roo's for Hundreds of KLM's where You could virtually see from one onto the next carcase , when drought times were bad . We still always have a Bar on our SUV , they certainly won't stop severe Damage But You can Usually avoid Bad damage and Limp home ,Maybe Broken Wind screen, Mudguards or Side Panels .

OIH. I was talking to the Chaps whom You sent that Manifold over for, and they are Hoping get into it rolling Soon LJ

Thank you for posting the pictures. The rally looks like it turned out very well and was a lot of good fun.

It is always neat seeing things from other parts of the world.

Just for those folks that have a problem backing one trailer, here is a video of a fellow backing two 53' trailers.

It can be done.
